Auditions and casting calls for ABC Family series pilot 'Phys Ed'

ABC Family Phys Ed Auditions Casting Calls

"Phys Ed" is one of five new pilots that are in production for ABC Family.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

Prodco is in pre-production on a new comedy series pilot for ABC Family called "Phys Ed", and auditions are taking place for series regulars, guest stars, and day players. Extras will be cast throughout production which begins in November, 2012. Roles for teachers, parents, and students are being cast in Los Angeles, with some additional casting done in New York. Especially needed are people 18 and older who can play high school age to work as extras on the show. Shooting will take place in Los Angeles.

"Phys Ed" is a half-hour multi-camera comedy series, although the pilot episode will be one-hour long. The show centers on Ed Spector, played by Ryan Sypek. Ed was a popular high school jock who returns as an adult to teach Physical Education at his former high school, and ends up somehow becoming intimate with fellow teacher Janie Macallister, played by Kate Lang Johnson. Turns out Janie is Ed's former Nathan Hale High School classmate whom he ignored, but is now drop dead gorgeous. Although Ed has matured and become a very nice responsible man, he soon discovers that the same cannot be said for some of the other faculty members. The history teacher Alan Rappaport is a pretentious jerk, along with his airheaded large busted hot sidekick Cheer Coach Wendy Kleinman.

Former actor Ted Wass will direct the pilot episode of "Phys Ed". Wass previously directed episodes of the ABC Family shows "State of Georgia" and "Melissa & Joey". Other notable episodic television directing credits include Disney Channel's "Smart Guy," "Caroline in the City," "Spin City," "Less Than Perfect," "The Big Bang Theory," "Two and a Half Men," and "Rules of Engagement" among many others. Wass is a graduate of DePaul University's Goodman School of Drama, and made his Broadway acting debut in "Grease" playing Danny Zuko in 1976. He then played Danny Dallas on the series "Soap" from 1977–1981, and Nick Russo on the sitcom "Blossom" from 1991–1995 among many other shows. After Blossom ended in 1995, Wass retired from acting and has focused only on directing episodic television.

David H. Steinberg wrote the pilot episode of "Phys Ed". Steinberg lives in Santa Monica, CA, with his wife producer Keetgi Kogan. The couple have collaborated on several projects including the films "Barely Legal" starring Amy Smart and Tom Arnold, and the upcoming "Miss Dial" which was also produced by Cast It Talent founder Eric Hayes. Keetgi Kogan is additionally a writer, and has written a screenplay called "What About Barb" that will be released by Universal Pictures. Both Steinberg and Kogan attended the prestigious Peter Stark Producing Program at USC.

The production company behind "Phys Ed" is called Prodco, Inc. Prodco's president is Don Mink, who is also co-founder of the Disney-ABC Television Group owned subsidiary production company It's a Laugh Productions. That company has produced such Disney Channel shows as "Hannah Montana," "Lab Rats," "Pair of Kings," "A.N.T. Farm," "Wizards of Waverly Place," "The Suite Life on Deck" "Dog with a Blog," and "Jessie" among many others. In addition to "Phys Ed", Prodco is also producing four other ABC Family pilots in pre-production.

ABC Family casting calls for Jennifer Lopez produced series 'The Fosters'

ABC Family Auditions The Fosters

"The Fosters" begins shooting in Late October, 2012.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

Blazing Elm Entertainment and Prodco in association with Nuyorican Productions are nearing the start of shooting on the ABC Family drama series pilot "The Fosters". Auditions are taking place in Los Angeles and New York for series regulars, guest starring, possible recurring, and day player roles. All of the show's extras will be cast in Los Angeles throughout the shoot, beginning in late October, 2012. Especially needed will be talent who are 18 years of age and above, or legally emancipated, who can portray high school students. The production office is located at Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood, CA.

The show centers on a multi-ethnic family mix of foster and biological kids being raised by two moms. Lena and Stef Foster, a mixed race lesbian couple, have enough love to spare for both Stef's biological son, Brandon, as well as Jesus and Marianne, whom they adopted out of the foster system. But when Lena opens her heart and their home, once again, to Callie Jacob, a troubled teen fresh out of a youth detention center, the Foster family is in for a painful but ultimately rewarding period of adjustment.

Starring in "The Fosters" is two-time Screen Actors Guild Award nominee Teri Polo of "Meet the Parents" fame as police officer Stef Foster, wife of Lena, adoptive parent to two twin teens, and biological parent to a son; two-time Daytime Emmy Award nominee Sherri Saum as Lena Foster, Stef's wife and benevolent school principal who takes in pugnacious teen foster child Callie; Maia Mitchell of Disney Channel's "Teen Beach Musical" plays the juvenile delinquent Callie; David Lambert of Disney Channel's "Aaron Stone" and "Den Brother" is playing Stef's biological son Brandon.

Primetime Emmy winner Timothy Busfield will direct the pilot episode from a teleplay written by Peter Paige and Bradley Bredeweg. Busfield's Emmy came from his acting role as Elliot Weston on the ABC hit series "thirtysomething". He has worked on countless film and television productions as actor, director, and executive producer. Broadway credits include "A Few Good Men". With elder brother Buck Busfield, he is co-founder of the B Street Theatre in Sacramento, California, where he has appeared in and directed numerous contemporary works.

Executive producing "The Fosters" is Jennifer Lopez and Simon Fields under the banner of Lopez' company Nuyorican Productions. Also executive producing are the shows writers/creators Peter Paige and Brad Bredeweg of Blazing Elm Entertainment, while Prodco is producing for ABC Family. Prodco's president is Don Mink, who is also co-founder of the Disney-ABC Television Group owned subsidiary production company It's a Laugh Productions. That company has produced such Disney Channel shows as "Lab Rats," "Pair of Kings," "A.N.T. Farm," "Wizards of Waverly Place," "The Suite Life on Deck" and "Dog with a Blog," among many others. In addition to "The Fosters", Prodco is also producing four other ABC Family pilots in pre-production.

New ABC Family series 'Socio' casting calls in Los Angeles and New York

ABC Family Socio Casting Calls

The "Socio" pilot is executive produced by 8-time Emmy Award nominee Gavin Polone.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

The production company Pariah in association with Prodco are ready to begin shooting a new pilot for ABC Family titled "Socio". The casting directors in Los Angeles and New York are auditioning actors for starring, guest-starring, recurring roles, and day players. Extras will be hired throughout production beginning late October, 2012. The production office for the show is located at the EUE/Screen Gems Studios in New York City. "Socio" is one of five new pilots that are in production for the network. The others are "The Fosters," "Terminales," "Phys Ed," and "Continuing Fred."

"Socio" centers on a charismatic sixteen-year-old alleged sociopath, who recently reconnected with his two female best friends from childhood, and who becomes the prime suspect when a fellow student is murdered. Danny Ryder, who murdered his own aunt five years ago, returns to his home town after being released from custody - a controversial homecoming that causes a media firestorm. Admittedly guilty, Danny, nicknamed "Socio" by the hostile high school crowd he will be attending school with, claims that he had a reason for the murder - but what that reason is he has stubbornly refused to divulge.

Starring in "Socio" is Canadian actor Avan Jogia in the role of Danny Ryder, the teen who returns to town after being locked up for five years after killing his aunt; Denise Richards plays Danny's mother Karen, who harbors secrets of her own; Maddie Hasson portrays Jo Masterson, Danny's former best friend; Kimberly Quinn is Jo's mother Tess, who gives Danny the benefit of doubt and is tolerant of him wanting to be friends with Jo again; Kylie Bunbury has been cast as Danny's other former best friend, now a popular girl who wants to rid herself of her harrowing past.

The talented Adam Milch wrote the pilot for "Socio" and will co-executive produce with eight-time Primetime Emmy Award nominee Gavin Polone of the production company Pariah. Prodco will produce along with Pariah's Lauren Pfeiffer. Prodco's president is Don Mink, who is also co-founder of the Disney-ABC Television Group owned subsidiary production company It's a Laugh Productions. That company has produced such Disney Channel shows as "Hannah Montana," "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody," "Jonas," "Jessie," "Shake It Up!", "Austin & Ally," and "Dog with a Blog," among many others. In addition to "Socio", Prodco is also producing the other four ABC Family pilots in pre-production.

When the two families meet, the girls struggle with their identities as Bay relates to the artistic abilities of Daphne's mother, and Daphne is drawn to the athletic skills of Bay's father, as well as the family's friendly demeanor. The Kennishes learn that Daphne and her mom are facing financial woes and propose the Vasquezes move into their guest home. The new living situation forces the girls, along with both families, to understand their differences and embrace their similarities.

The cast includes Teen Choice Award nominee Vanessa Marano returning as Bay Kennish; Teen Choice Award nominee Katie Leclerc as Daphne Vasquez; Teen Choice Award nominee Lucas Grabeel is back as Bay's brother Toby Kennish; Screen Actors Guild Award winner D.W. ABC Family casting actors and extras for new ballet series 'Bunheads'

ABC Family Auditions Casting Bunheads

"Bunheads" premiers Monday, June 11, 2012 at 9:00pm ET/PT on ABC Family
AB Media Publishing, LLC

Update (August 17, 2012): "Bunheads" has given a back-order pick-up for 8 additional episodes for season 1.

ABC Family is now in production on a new ballet drama series called "Bunheads", and the casting directors are auditioning actors for co-starring, guest starring, and day player roles. Extas and stand-ins are also being cast throughout the season. The show centers on a Las Vegas showgirl who impulsively marries a man named Hubble Flower and moves to his sleepy coastal town of Paradise, California after he passes away. She inherits his house, his mother Fanny Flowers along with her dance studio and students.

Headlining the series is the extremely beautiful and talented Tony Award winning actress, singer, and dancer Sutton Foster in the role of Michelle. There was a national talent search that took place, as the producers sought a variety of teen girls with strong Ballet experience. They wanted girls who are 18 and above who can play 14 - 17 years of age, or girls under 18 who are emancipated. They found dancer Bailey Buntain in New York City; Yuri Grigoriev School of Ballet trained Jenny-Lyn Marais in Los Angeles; Emma Dumont dances at Los Angeles Ballet Academy; Julia Goldani-Telles also in New York City; and newcomer Kaitlyn Jenkins from Orange County High School of the Arts in Santa Ana, California. Kelly Bishop ("Gilmore Girls") plays Fanny Flowers.

Primetime Emmy nominated Amy Sherman-Palladino directed the pilot episode from a screenplay that she wrote herself. About "Bunheads", Sherman-Palladino said, "I spent 20 years of my life with my hair in a bun. I was supposed to be a dancer. My mother was a dancer. Her greatest heartbreak was when I got on Roseanne. So, while writing this will never equal playing "Rumpelteazer" in a bus and truck tour of Cats, it does let me tip my hat to a really special time in my life." The project was originally picked up as a cast-contingent pilot last fall with writer Lamar Damon. Sherman-Palladino is executive producing "Bunheads". Sherman-Palladino is best known as creator, executive producer, head writer, and director of the popular WB Television Network series "Gilmore Girls". Her husband, Daniel Palladino, is also writing and directing episodes of "Bunheads".

ABC Family casting actors and extras for season 3 of the hit series 'Pretty Little Liars'

Pretty Little Liars Auditions Extras Casting

"Pretty Little Liars" third season will will premiere on June 5, 2012.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

Update: On October 4, 2012, ABC Family renewed  "Pretty Little Liars" for a fourth season.

The third season of ABC Family's hugely popular teen drama mystery thriller television series "Pretty Little Liars" is now underway. The show's casting directors are auditioning actors for guest starring and day player roles, as well as hiring extras and stand-ins. The network has ordered 24 episodes that will shoot through October, 2012. The story is set in the fictitious town of Rosewood, Pennsylvania but shoots in Los Angeles. "Pretty Little Liars" premiered on June 8, 2010 becoming ABC Family's highest-rated series debut on record.

"Pretty Little Liars" follows the lives of four teenage girls - Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale), Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell), Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson), and Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario) - whose clique falls apart after the disappearance of their leader, Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse), until her body is found, and they join together again at her funeral - where they immediately begin receiving text messages from an anonymous source, "A", who threatens to expose their secrets — including long-hidden ones they thought only their close friend Alison knew. As the show continues, they are plagued by "A's" cruel schemes, ranging from worms instead of Chinese food, to vicious attempts on their lives.

The show is based on a series of young adult novels by Sara Shepard that are "loosely based on her experiences growing up on Philadelphia's Main Line". Ten books have been released so far, and "Stunning," the next book in the series, has a release date of June 5, 2012. A twelfth and final book, "Burned," is scheduled to be released December 4, 2012. A companion book, "Pretty Little Secrets," was released on January 3, 2012. The book is set during the winter holidays between the books "Unbelievable" and "Wicked". Sara Shepard has been writing for many years, and when she was young, one of the things she wanted to be when she grew up was a soap opera star.
