ABC Family Series Bunheads Teen Girls Talent Search

"Bunheads" is an AFTRA show and will begin shooting mid-November 2011.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

Dark Toy Entertainment and ABC Family is producing a new one-hour scripted drama called "Bunheads", and casting calls have gone out to Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and also Canada. The producers are seeking a variety of teen girls who have strong Ballet Experience. They prefer girls who are 18 and above who can play 14 - 17 years of age, or girls under 18 who are emancipated, but it is not absolutely required. When submitting, please specify if you have the ability to dance on pointe, as several roles require this ability. They want girls with a small-town attitude. Shooting begins mid-November in Los Angeles. The original title of this show was "Strut".

Primetime Emmy nominated Amy Sherman-Palladino is executive producing "Bunhead". Sherman-Palladino is best known as creator, executive producer, head writer, and director of the popular WB Television Network series "Gilmore Girls". Norman Buckley will also executive produce. Buckly has directed such hit shows as "Pretty Little Liars," "Gossip Girl," "90210," "Melrose Place," "The O.C." among many others. Charlie Stratton, Anna Mastro, and Karey Burke round out the executive producing team.

Amy Sherman-Palladino will also direct the pilot episode from a screenplay that she wrote herself. About "Bunheads", Sherman-Palladino said, "I spent 20 years of my life with my hair in a bun. I was supposed to be a dancer. My mother was a dancer. Her greatest heartbreak was when I got on Roseanne. So, while writing this will never equal playing "Rumpelteazer" in a bus and truck tour of Cats, it does let me tip my hat to a really special time in my life." The project was originally picked up as a cast-contingent pilot last fall with writer Lamar Damon.

Talent must be able to convincingly portray the role of a teenager – and be legally eligible to work in the United States. Candidates must also be available for production beginning mid-November, 2011.

ABC Family Dancer Open Casting Call

Filming will run through October 21, 2011.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

Note: This ABC Famly telefilm has been using the working title of "Elixer". A working title is the temporary name of a film used during its development. Working titles are used primarily for two reasons - the first being that an official title has not yet been decided upon and the working title is being used as a filler for naming purposes, the second being to intentionally disguise the production of a high profile film. In some cases a working title may ultimately be used as the official title. This "title ruse" is now a very common practice by which these high-profile films or television series are given a fake working title to keep its production a secret, and to prevent price gouging by suppliers, casual theft and undesirable attention. The release title of this film will not be "Elixer" according to a network spokeswoman.

The Disney Channel's sister network ABC Family is set to shoot a television musical movie in Pittsburgh, PA from September 19th through October 21, 2011. The production is holding an open casting call for Pittsburgh area local dancers to work throughout filming. Dancers must be aged 19 to 30 and be proficient in jazz, contemporary and hip-hop. Points will also be awarded for gymnastic ability.

Moroccan American music video and film director Sanaa Hamri will direct the telefilm from a screenplay written by Jaylynn Bailey and Terry Rossio. Hamri's videos include Prince's "Musicology", Kelly Rowland's "Stole", Mariah Carey's "Crybaby". She has also directed videos for Lenny Kravitz, Joss Stone, Sting, Raven-Symoné, Jay-Z, and Christina Aguilera. Her film credits include "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2", "Just Wright", and "Common".

Writer Terry Rossio will also executive produce. Rossio is an extremely accomplished writer, who wrote all of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" screenplays among countless others. Debra Martin Chase and Gaylyn Fraiche will produce the project under the banner of Chase's company Martin Chase Productions, which also produced director Sanaa Hamri's films "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" and "Just Wright".

Mistaken for an adult applying for a permanent position, Jane is amazed when she's hired, not as an intern, but as an assistant to Gray Chandler Murray (Andie MacDowell) a bona fide dragon lady who is so demanding she uses up two assistants a month. It's a huge opportunity for Jane to help her brother cover the bills and get a leg-up in the industry she loves, but meanwhile, she has to live two lives, juggling her high school class load with her insanely demanding new job. So far, Jane is rising to the challenge of her schizophrenic, exciting new lifestyle, but just how long she can fool her guidance counselor (Nazneen Contractor), teachers, co-workers and new boss, remains to be seen.
