ABC Family Series Bunheads Teen Girls Talent Search

"Bunheads" is an AFTRA show and will begin shooting mid-November 2011.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

Dark Toy Entertainment and ABC Family is producing a new one-hour scripted drama called "Bunheads", and casting calls have gone out to Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and also Canada. The producers are seeking a variety of teen girls who have strong Ballet Experience. They prefer girls who are 18 and above who can play 14 - 17 years of age, or girls under 18 who are emancipated, but it is not absolutely required. When submitting, please specify if you have the ability to dance on pointe, as several roles require this ability. They want girls with a small-town attitude. Shooting begins mid-November in Los Angeles. The original title of this show was "Strut".

Primetime Emmy nominated Amy Sherman-Palladino is executive producing "Bunhead". Sherman-Palladino is best known as creator, executive producer, head writer, and director of the popular WB Television Network series "Gilmore Girls". Norman Buckley will also executive produce. Buckly has directed such hit shows as "Pretty Little Liars," "Gossip Girl," "90210," "Melrose Place," "The O.C." among many others. Charlie Stratton, Anna Mastro, and Karey Burke round out the executive producing team.

Amy Sherman-Palladino will also direct the pilot episode from a screenplay that she wrote herself. About "Bunheads", Sherman-Palladino said, "I spent 20 years of my life with my hair in a bun. I was supposed to be a dancer. My mother was a dancer. Her greatest heartbreak was when I got on Roseanne. So, while writing this will never equal playing "Rumpelteazer" in a bus and truck tour of Cats, it does let me tip my hat to a really special time in my life." The project was originally picked up as a cast-contingent pilot last fall with writer Lamar Damon.

Talent must be able to convincingly portray the role of a teenager – and be legally eligible to work in the United States. Candidates must also be available for production beginning mid-November, 2011.
